I’ve burn the recovery DVD-Rs really cheap branded, it can’t get worse than those and I’ve burned CD-RWs also really old and generic brand, can’t be worse than those either. This thread is locked. Performance has been pretty good with everyday media, but last week it just “unhooked” itself from the laptop, and says that the driver cannot load, or that something is preventing the driver xlimtype loading.

However, more was raised about this drive in Dell threads months ago. The disk booted just fine and attempted to install XP without any difficulty, so I know that the drive itself is working properly. I’d been looking for a fix for a while! It also has an “error 39” as well. All patches, service packs, and upgrades are in place, and I did everything you mentioned in your post above.

Before it stopped working, I hadn’t done anything but the regular updates and a defrag a month previous. Right-click on the device name and select Update Driver Software this will then search for the best driver for this device.
